Laughter Yoga

What is Laughter Yoga? LY is a fun form of exercise using yogic breathing, child-like play, rhythmic clapping games to often initiate laughter.  We laugh for no reason at all, unconditionally, heartily and for an extended period.

Who developed Laughter Yoga? In 1995 cardiologist, Dr. Kataria of Mumbai India founded LY while doing research on laughter being the best medicine. He began with 5 people in a park simply laughing together.  Today LY practice has spread to over 60 countries with over 6,000 groups as medical research continues.

Why do Laughter Yoga?  Laughter increases circulation, oxygenates, builds the immune system, releases endorphins, relieves stress, bonds communities, feels good, is fun, and more!  How about world peace?  Yes, laughter is a universal language.

Media has helped in spreading a great awareness about LY clubs worldwide. However, many people still do not have an easy access to laughter clubs.

I have doing some a one-on-one coaching system that enables laughter professionals to do a laughter session with individuals and help them to reap the same health benefits as those in the club.

Laughter one-on-one sessions can be extremely beneficial to patients of chronic illnesses, those bedridden and unable to exercise as well as those who are very busy and need scheduling at specific times.  

Laughter leaders can teach the patients the techniques of Laughing Alone which can also be reinforced over the telephone. I have done several one-on-one LY coaching sessions and successfully motivated many people to either practice laughing alone at home or join laughter groups. Many of them were over worked, stressed, depressed, or bedridden.

Laughter yoga is a unique exercise routine, which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing (PRANAYAMA). Anyone can laugh without relying on humor, jokes or comedies. We simulate laughter as a body exercise in a group, but with eye contact and childlike playfulness it turns into real contagious laughter. The concept of laughter yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between simulated and real laughter. ~ Dr. Madan & Madhuri Kataria, founders.
